WHY Why should you use a permanent magnet starter when you need to replace your D model starter(19691972)?
Why did BNA find an alternative hose for the bi-pass hose on the DS? As some parts become less available, (bi-pass hose for example) reproduction parts are being made. Most of the reproduction parts are reasonably priced and very good quality. Some parts although of good quality are rather expensive. The DS21 bi-pass hose is one of those parts. Even the original Citroen Bi-pass hose when it was available was expensive. The reproduction hose retails for about $70 US. I along with some of my customers thought their had to be a better (less expensive) alternative. I have been able to locate 2 molded hoses made by a major manufacturer that when cut and spliced together make a very good substitute. I start with 2 US made molded hoses. They are cut to correct proportions. These hoses are then spliced together with a special hose splice made by Gates Rubber (specially designed for joining automotive heater hose). The splice connection is clamped with original stainless steel Citroen clamps. For ultimate protection from rubbing, heat, oil, etc. the hose is then covered with a split corrugated plastic wrap. The hose fits very nicely and saves you money. Hose sells for $35- A savings of 50% over the reproduction hose. Why classic radials for your DS? Citroen Ds all were originally equipped with Michelin radials. US spec cars used 180 hr15 front and rear. These Michelin tires, once almost unavailable, are now being sold in the US by one dealer. They vary in price but are always more than $150 each. 185hr15 are also suitable, but they are just as expensive or more. If you plan to "SHOW" your DS or drive it to it's limits at all times I would recommend Michelin tires. Brad Nauss Automotive has located another tire that is a great substitution. If you are a normal everyday driver who is not concerned about 100% originality, I would suggest the Classic Radials
